Hart, , Stanford University Press edition, in English. Hart's philosophy of legal positivism is a pragmatist's approach to the role of law in society. Hart's philosophy of law held that laws should not be based only on popular moral consensus, in the absence of other harms. This is consistent with Hart's argument that one role of law was to protect individual liberty.

He defends liberty through the natural law perspective and shows that it is moral and right and that the alternatives to the total libertarian society are inconsistent and flawed. Even when one disagrees with him (I disagree somewhat with Rothbard on the abortion issue), the thoughtful reader can and should appreciate Rothbard's awesome.   Book Talk | No. 1 | H. L. A.
